How we photograph an architectural project
Every architectural project follows the same method, and it begins before the camera comes out: we explore and pre-visualise the space to grasp the intent behind the project. It is the most interesting part of the craft — working out what the architect imagined and proposed for whoever will use the space, and seeing how the building flows within its setting.
The shot list comes out of that. We decide which frame explains the massing, which one the construction detail and which one the relationship with the context — and what time of day each of them works. The afternoon light that saves a west-facing façade ruins the inner courtyard: that is why the hour of each frame is decided in pre-production and not improvised on site.
What good project documentation is for
Photography is the only medium in which most people will ever encounter your work. It is essential for:
- Building the firm’s website and portfolio — and if you need the platform too, we do web design for architects.
- Presentations to prospective clients and investors.
- Digital marketing strategies and sales campaigns.
- Design competitions and architecture biennials.
- Features in specialist magazines and design media.
A well-made photographic record captures the intangibles particular to each property: the real scale, the quality of the material, the way the light comes in at midday. High-impact images are decisive in competitions, where the jury almost never visits the building.
Architectural photography with drone

Aerial drone photography resolves what no ground-level frame can: the siting, the relationship with the land and a full reading of the massing. In real estate developments and institutional projects it is usually the lead image of the whole campaign.

- Fees cover the creative rate (shoot + editing). The usage licence is agreed separately, based on where the images will finally be published.
- There may be an adjustment within each range depending on the size of the client, the logistics involved (travel, number of sessions) and whether the project targets the domestic or the international market.

Frequently asked questions about architectural photography
How much does an architectural photo shoot cost?
In 2026 a home or a basic 5-hour session with 20 to 25 final images starts at $10,000 MXN; a full 10-hour project with 40 images is $23,500 MXN. The breakdown by project type is in the price list.
How many photos do you deliver, and in what format?
The number of final images is agreed before the shoot and forms part of the fee. All of them are delivered processed, with corrected perspective, in JPEG for web and at high resolution, and in TIFF when the project is going to print or to a competition.
Do you correct vertical lines?
Always. We work with tilt-shift optics and with perspective correction in post, because a building with falling verticals reads as amateur even to someone who cannot say why the image bothers them.
What needs to be ready on shoot day?
The work finished and clean, with no construction materials in view, the landscaping watered and the lighting working. If something will not be ready it is better to move the date: retouching an unfinished building costs more than coming back another day.
Can I use the photos for competitions and magazines?
Yes, that is one of their natural uses. For editorial publication and biennials we deliver the files in whatever format the brief requires. If the material is going into paid advertising, an additional usage licence applies.
Are aerial shots included?
Aerial drone photography is quoted separately from $2,500 MXN. On urban infill work between party walls it adds little; on projects with land, natural context or significant volume, it is usually the image that opens the presentation.
